I went on a 9 day camping trip which consisted of a 50 mile hike with Troop 315 of Middletown, Ca. I had such a great time camping out there. My troop and I went swimming at the lakes saw a baby black bear and climbed to the top of the old volcano and into the center. I miss those... more

Lovely lake near the campsite and hot showers nearby make this a great campground. The park is wonderful--small enough to see completely in 3 days. You can hike most of the trails in the park in this time if you are fit and ambitious. more

Took a drive from Reno to Mt. Lassen. Fortunately the weather has been good and the roads in the park were open. Tried to see most major areas: Sulpher Works--Short walk just off the road. Two steaming vents the first time, 5 or 6 on our way back. Boardwalk closed. I guess some of it has been destroyed and it... more

My husband and I visited Lassen Park in July. It was a wonderful experience-- hiking, gorgeous views, very educational on the recent eruption in 1915 with rock piles everywhere at the base of the mountain. We're also swimmers. Manzanita Lake was listed by some online as a place to swim, and some do. But we decided not to because of... more

Visited Lassen National Park in early August, 2005. We climbed to the top of Lassen Peak, which is over 10,000 feet up. The hike is fairly strenuous, 2,000 feet of elevation gain, although we saw kids doing it. There was lots of snow around still. The view from the top was worth it, you could see for many miles. It... more

We hiked the Bumpass Hell trail on July 31st, 2005. The temperature was around 80 degrees and piles of snow still dotted the area. The trail itself is relatively easy and very well maintained. It was quite busy but that was to be expected. If you are sensitive to strong odours then be prepared for an onslought of sulpher. Bumpass... more

I have lived in Northern California for 38 years and Manzanita Lake is my favorite place to go. Even if for only a weekend day, My husband and I may only walk the Lake trail and explore the wonders of the forest but it is the most relaxing place on earth. We have on occasion taken the unlighted tour through... more

My kids and I hiked Lassen Peak one afternoon in August 2005. This is a very steep and challenging hike but can be accomplished by anyone in decent shape. All you need to do is take your time and enjoy the fabulous views along the way. It took us about 4 hours round trip with a stay at the top... more

Bumpass Hell is a great hike. It's just a short 1.5 mile path down to some incredible "Little Yellowstone" sites. It was already the beginning of August, but we still had to cross a patch of snow to get to our destination! The very last part of the hike is a little steep, but not too bad if you take... more

I stayed at the Manzanita Lake campground the first weekend of August 2004. This was definitely the best campsite in the Lassen Park area. We stayed in Loop C - really nice. Great clean private flush bathrooms -with soap and a mirror! Very nice, flat campsites with good space for two tents. Nice picnic table and plenty of room for... more

Lassen was great as always . My problem was a boat rental at Knotty Pines Resort, I rented a boat that I was told was filled with gas ,yet the gauge said it was half full.I used the boat for 2 hours / of which 30 minutes just floating having a picnic, swells on the lake made going fast to rough... more

I found Juniper Lake to be magical. The water is warm and the most beautiful turquoise blue. You can see the bottom of the lake and it is clean and inviting. The primitive (outhouses & firepits) campgrounds are more than I ever expected to find in such a "visited" area. I found no garbage on the ground and it was... more
