As far as campgrounds go, it wasn't bad. All the inconveniences and annoyances of camping were absolved when you stepped out onto the spectacular beach. Everything from swimming to snorkeling to kayaking was amazing; you really did not need to leave the grounds (although I'd highly recommend exploring!). My family came over on the ferry from St Thomas for the day. St John was very laid back. We took a cab to Trunk Bay. You had to pay a minimal state park fee...but the showers were great...
