We are just back from a business trip to Lyon where we spent three nights at the Phenix. The hotel is reasonably well located; that is about the most positive thing I can say. My estimation is that it was redecorated in the 70 and cries out for a revamp. It all looks tired and the rooms are the most... more
The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. It is a very romantic place. The rooms were very nice decorated and very specious. Also the food was very good but of course exepnsive since the restaurant its Michelen rated. Lyon is very close and you can also go out in Lyon for the night or during the day. However,... more
Staff, service and location was fine. Small room, but lovely light. Lumpy old bed, limited breakfast but not bad for France. Good value. Strange idosyncrasy here of taking your key when you leave as the room keys have tassels on them which declare your room and the hotel name. But this is fine as staff buzz you into the lobby... more
The very Master. I can only say go there as long as Paul is still able to work. Compellingly classic French cuisine. Well-deserved three Michelin stars since decades. more
Spent a weekend break in Lyon and chose le Royal based on reviews on tripadvisor. We were extremely pleased withour stay. The hotel has planty of charm, has well equipped rooms, friendly courteous staff, EXTREMELY comfortable beds and is centrally located near to hundreds of cafes, restaurants and bars. The small downsides: not enough places to hang wet towels and... more
In spite of the difficulty parking (it is exorbitant in this city but you can park in the Place Bellecour, near the toursit information office) it is well worth passing up the boring chain hotel option for the possibility of B&B here. Especially as it is so well located for reaching all the best bits of Lyon on either side... more
We were only in Lyon for the last night of our stay in France and were glad we had booked at this hotel. It was so central to everything. We had dropped off our luggage at the hotel and took our rental car back to Avis at Part Dieu train station. We walked back from there. It was about a... more
A really good value hotel right in the heart of Lyon and handy for most sights. Old town only about 5-10 mins by foot. We had a triple room as I had taken my 17 year old son along on the trip and the room turned out to be spacious and airy. Only mild downside was that directions were a... more
My wife and I stayed here for one night only upon our arrival in France, having booked this hotel on-line based on Trip-Advisor ratings. The hotel is a long walk with your luggage from the main train station where the airport shuttle bus drops you, but it is not complicated. The night clerk was waiting for us and was very... more
My wife and I stayed here just one night on our way back to Canada since it is close to Lyon airport. Located in an industrial park the hotel is adequate for business travellers but not so great for tourists. The accommodation is typically Ibis, no frills, just enough room to get around. The bathroom is small but adequate. The... more
We were making a "speed run" from Barcelona to western Germany, and Lyon was a good half-way stop. We didn't have time to visit the city this time, so we thought this location (out from the city on a road at 2 o'clock on a clock face) would be perfect for an early departure for Germany. Made the reservation from... more
For a three day business trip to Lyon, the high rating of Le Royal at Tripadvisor inspired to make this choice, which I was not very happy with. Generally an old 'charming' city centre hotel (which I tend to like) that tries to keep up, but not fully succeeding. The location is splendid when you first are there (you need... more
Location and cleanliness are my two priorities when choosing hotels and Saint Paul certainly fulfilled both. Their location right in the middle of the old town of Lyon is also within walking distance of the Croix Rousse quartier (although steep uphill) and the shopping areas across the Saone river. Both bathroom and bedroom were recently furbished and very clean and... more
We stayed 5 nights at the charming College Hotel in October 2008. I agree with all the other positive comments, and also had the pleasure of Room 22 with its private terrace. At first I was also disappointed with the hand-held shower because I have back problems and it is hard for me to sit or squat in the tub.... more
I'd booked this hotel because it was close to the train station. So it is a little out of the way, but the main city centre is easily accessible by the very efficient metro or walking. It was also a bargain at 70 euros per double - the rooms each had a queen size bed, a comfortable fold out couch,... more
This is a brand new hotel in lyon, beautiful designed in a quiet and new area. Pros : - very very clean - nice design - friendly staff - bed is big, comfy and very good - WiFi for free (good and fast connection) Cons : - small rooms (very small) - breakfast only till 9:30 AM, even at the... more
A mixed bag here. Remember this is not a cheap hotel. Ok pluses first. Yes it is the tallest hotel in Europe so the views out of your room are special. Neutrals-There is nothing wrong with the rooms. Just a little on the small side. It is hard to find by foot BUT there is a tram stop directly outside... more
My wife and I stayed 2 nights in early October. We were in a nice sized room on an upper floor which was neat and clean. The bathroom was quite good (excellent heated towel rails which we used to dry some underwear overnight) and the hotel facilities all OK. One interesting point was that the room was quite warm and... more
Stayed in this 3 star hotel for two nights and enjoyed our stay very much, the place was clean, decent bathroom, only problem was the bathtub didn't have a shower curtain only a partial glass door so water would splash out onto the floor. There was enough space for the three of us girls two double beds plus a pull... more
