Pension Vilsmeier

4 of 5 stars
Bonn, Germany
Oct 3, 2008

We recently stayed for a couple of days in the Pension Vilsmeier, a typical German B&B. Located in the 'Innstadt' across the river Inn, the Altstadt of Passau is easily accessible by foot via a pedestrian foot bridge close by. All-in-all a 20 min walk from the Pension to the Cathedral in the centre of the old town (downhill going... more

I booked this place since it seemed to be the best value within walking distance of central Passau. Although it appears they are known more for their restaurant (which seemed to be rather busy), I was pleasantly surprised with the room. They gave my girlfriend and me a spacious 2 bedroom (even though we paid for a double room) with... more

Bluenotes Bar

Very nice place, Cocktails are ok, barkeepers friendly. In the summer they have a special called license to grill. You can bring your own meat and put it on their american xxl grill. You can also buy meat from them. Best thing for sure is their beergarden in the back. It's right next to the old town wall and really... more

Very nice place in the Innstadt. Super friendly owners and service. Very good Foccaccia (which is more like a pizza bread but still great), good Pizza, very good grilled seafood platter. Excellent wine (try the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo they advise you to take), very good coffee. more

Cafe Kowalski

Famous for its Schnitzel (which is not a Wiener Schnitzel though - here it is made with Pork!!!). Actually the Schnitzel is not good at all, it's just big, but that's what Germans care about most. Some good waiters but most of them are terrible. I had some friends who liked to go there but they couldn't tell a pasta... more

Hotel Wilder Mann

Located right next to the Rathaus, the Hotel Wilder Mann also houses the Glass Museum. Our room was huge by European standards with wonderful antique furnishings. The staff was helpful and the rate was in line with what you would expect. Close to everything, it is hard to find anything that is below-average with this hotel. Highly recommended! more

Very large rooms, very clean and modern, staff was very friendly (I think, not many spoke English). Breakfast was good. Overall worth every penny. more

My parents booked this hotel at the suggestion of a family friend in Germany. Rooms were very comfortable, washrooms small, but clean. Breakfast was also great. Lots of variety (fresh fruit, eggs, cold cuts, cheese, jams, great coffee!). You won't go away hungry! Loved the view from our room overlooking the Donau. Great location as the many river boats dock... more

This is a regular 3-star hotel, I can't imagine why it rates itself 4 star. The room wasn't big, the bathroom was small and the choice of toiletries unassuming (only a piece of soap and a portion of shower gel being a shampoo as well). Since the room looked onto the busy main quay of the town we couldn't sleep... more

Hotel Restaurant Dreiflussehof

I spent one night only at this property, and was pleasently surprised by the quality of the dinner, but disappointed by the hotel part of the property. The rooms are tiny, the furniture is old and painted green, the bathrooms are not only tiny, but outright disgusting. The property is situated on a hill, resulting in the parking lot, being... more

I was looking for a place to stay for several people when I found the Fahrrad Pension in Passau on the Internet. A 4-room bedroom costs 40 Euro /night, which is the cheapest option available in Passau. The guesthouse is on the first floor of the Mandl Edelmühle bakery, adjacent to the railtracks. Therefore, people sensitive to noise should ask... more

This hotel is centrally located, just across the street from the railway station. We stayed one night in room 133, which is a wheelchair-accessible room. The room was clean, spacious, with an excellent accessible bathroom, and very quiet. I suggest avoiding the hotel's restaurant. It has no atmosphere and the food is average. Breakfast was fine. The staff were very... more

With our bike trip along the Danube starting from Passau, we were booked in the Weisser Hase (white rabbit) hotel. The location in Passau is ideal. On the main square and walking distance from the railway station. The hotel itself is comfortable without being great. We did get free internet access and the breakfast was quite a spread. This hotel... more

This was the first hotel we stayed in at the beginning of our Austrian Cycling holiday. The people couldn't have been more helpful or friendly and the room was perfect. The staff recommended a couple of restaurants and we chose one for dinner which was delightful. Breakfast at the hotel was really good also. The only problem was that our... more

Spent one night at hotel, the rooms were clean but small compared to North Amercian standards, beds were comfortable. The restaurant was great from the service to the food. Breakfast at the hotel was above average for selection and quality, we were traveling as a large group but the food was fresh and always full, almost had a bed and... more
