First, the bad news: this hotel is expensive, and it is not of quite the same standard as, say, the Monasterio Cusco or the Miraflores Park in Lima. The good news: everything else is great! We arrived at around 1pm off the HB and our rooms were ready. After an afternoon on the site, it is comforting to be able... more

El Sanctuario is a pleasant place to stay, feels somewhat homey with no specific decor or atmosphere. But it is clean, on the main street in Aguas Calientes, does provide breakfast (but not early enough for those of us who wanted to catch the first bus up to Machu Picchu) and they allow you to store your luggage with them... more

During daytime you"d think you are in a country fair, crowded, noisy but after the buses leave all is quiet ,dinner is great,.Though it belongs to Orient Express food (breakfast, lunch tea and dinner )is much better than on the Hiram Bingham train.I loved the view of the montains, the small room is no problem as you spend most time in the garden and... more

We spent one night in late June at the Sanctuary Lodge, and it was worth every penny. Like most folks, we thought twice about spending $700+ for a room, but we have no regrets. Location, service and unlimited food/beverage made this once in a lifetime indulgence worthwhile. While staying up at Machu Picchu doesn't allow you to get into the... more

This hotel is not to be missed when visiting Machu Picchu. It's location is, to say the least, an advantage. Besides being able to wander around the ruins well after the crowds have all left for the last train to Cuzco, and being at the ruins the minute they open (6am) to watch the sun hit the Inca sundial, the... more

At almost 57 years old, I am excited to say that "I made it!" My 36 year old daughter took off at the fork in the trail and went to the Temple of the Moon. She met me at the top for the breath-taking view and the careful trip back down to the trailhead. What a fantastic trek! more

We traveled here after the Hiram Bingham train journey which was fabulous. We had a private guide which was much better as there was only the two of us so we would recommend people take that option. The staff and hotel were fantastic and very friendly. Just what would be expected of a hotel in this chain. It was my... more

We took the 5:30 AM bus out of Aguas Calientes to catch the sun rise (but was cloudy, unfortunately). Even during the short days of mid-June we had plenty of time to climb the peak and enjoy the Macchu Pichu ruins all in the same day. So, no need for more time. Macchu Pichu can be fully enjoyed in 4... more

definitely worth the hike up. Not too challenging if you like going up lots of stairs at as about a steep angle before they'd be ladders. You should go no later than 9 am to be sure to get in, then enjoy the Macchu Pichu ruins afterwards. If you are in average shape it will take you no more than... more

Machu Picchu at sunrise is absolutely amazing. You could see the sun rays over the Andes and light the ruin. It is definitely breathtaking. We took the train from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes instead of hiking. The train ride itself was an experience. We actually had to go forward and backward up the mountain since Cuzco is in the valley... more

Booked a mountain view room through Amex Platinum travel. Was able to occupy room after our arrival at the Lodge at 1PM from the Hiram Bingham train. All food, drink -plus massags for 2 were included in our package. We also got a 4PM checkout the following day( checkout is 9am). Our HB train package included a 3 hr tour of... more

We stayed at the Sanctuary Lodge earlier this week and would say it is worth every penny!!! Yes it is expensive but it's all about location, location, location. We had just completed the 4 day Inca Trail Hike ending at Machu Picchu and I can't tell you how good it was to be able to walk straight out of the... more

Yes this is a very expensive hotel, but it is probably one of the best you will find in Peru! The staff we excellent and made us feel special from the moment we arrived and that any request would not be too much trouble. The hotel is not flash but very comfortable in the best location you could ask for... more

We were lucky enough to get a reservation at the Lodge after being waitlisted. Unfortunately, this probably meant that the people who booked before us were bumped up to the better rooms. We had a standard room which was fairly small as expected and it did have an unexpected view of the Huanyna Picchu peak. There was, however, a big... more

This climb is a bit more rigorous than most of the Inca Trail. And the reward at the top is big. If you ever wanted a panorama or stich-assist function on a camera... this is it!!! But, keep in mind that if you only have one day in Machu Picchu, you might want to start Huayna Picchu early so you... more

Machu Picchu is the best and most impressive place you'll ever visit. It's simply amazing. It's breathtaking. When I went to Perú, I felt so happy to be there and people were extremely kind and well-educated. But the thing that I like the most about Peru is that it's probably the only place in the world where people make you... more

We stayed at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge as part of a tour we booked through Abercrombie and Kent. Despite the higher cost, the location of this hotel was one of the primary reasons we chose this particular tour. And as many other reviewers have noted, it's proximity to MP makes it well worth the money!! The lodge itself is... more

My mother and I stayed at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge earlier this month. The lodge itself is not extravagant but the location couldn't be better, just steps away from the entrance to Machu Picchu. Our room was ordinary, but had all of the high end amenities that you can expect from an Orient Express property. There are only 29... more

High recommendation with caveat on price. We spent 2 nights at the Sanctuary Lodge because we could afford to stay right next to the wonder of the world, MachuPicchu. The lodge is very nice, not The Ritz, and met expectations on cleanliness, service, food. Staff were very helpful, with a smile with adequate english. Really, what you pay for is... more

We spent one night at the Sanctuary Lodge to give us more time to spend at Machu Picchu. It is very expensive, but if you want an exceptional experience, stay at the Lodge. The rooms are very well-decorated, somewhat minimalist, but with great style. This is an all-inclusive hotel, which includes a massage. A welcome service after climbing about the... more
