This review is long over due! In January of 2006, I spent three nights/four days exploring Siem Reap, Cambodia and had a wonderful time. Night markets are not a natural thing in Siem Reap we read and was told. This was created for the tourist in mind. As stated in previous reviews, here you can escape the crowds. I don't know why not many people visit as it is no further than most of the other temples within or around the Angkor Thom vicinity. It's hard to descibe the feeling of coming 'home' to such luxury in such an incredibly poor town, but the Sofitel really was gorgeous! The rooms are spread out across huge gardens and overlook a beautiful, serene lake. I stayed at this hotel based on the recommendations of a friend. It was certainly a nice hotel but nothing outstanding. However, considering that I was able to stay there for $40/night through expedia, I can't really complain about anything. more
