We stayed in Takayama overnight on Oct. 21, 2008 and paid 378,000 yen for the both of us on the couple plan. It was pricy and was our big splurge for our trip. We arrived at Takayama rail station about noon without a room booking anywhere in town. The Tourist Information office opposite the station exit were extremely helpful and phoned a few places we had read about before mentioning Hotel Hana as a mid-range hotel offering doubles for Y10,000 - a quick call confirmed a booking and check-in at 3pm.
