I went to the Citadel on a mission trip with Good Shepherd Ministries Dec 2004. It is a long walk from the parking lot so give yourself time and bring water. We used a guide named Napoleon Duplin which the locals know as a well known guide. He is wonderful, speaks good English, and knows his history. It is best... more

I visited La Citadelle in 1999, two days after a hurricane. As a result, there were very few tourists and my self and my husband were two of not more than half a dozen visitors that day. We made the trek up on small horses. I recommend either using this mode of transport or hiking to fully appreciate the experience... more

The Citadelle is the most beautiful palace I have ever seen. I encourage anyone visiting Haiti should go and see the Citadelle. You will be amazed of the story of "how and why the palace was built. The people around are very friendly. Seeing the Citadelle will make you want to to learn about Haiti's history, which is extremely fascinating.... more
