The bear is a pretty small pub so sometimes you may have some trouble getting a bite to eat as I'd guess there are about a dozen tables if that inside. The food is OK, the identical menu to many of the pubs in the area (such as the eagle) with a few vegetarian options, burgers, sausage and mash. The... more

I am certainly no pub "expert," but I found the Bear to be exactly what one would imagine an old pub in Oxford would be. Low ceilings, creaky floors, boistrous students--the whole nine yards. It has a tremendous tie collection: each tie is carefully labelled with the patron's name, the date & the college. The ties are randomly grouped together... more
