If you are interested in history, and preferably know the basics of Irish History, this is a MUST, as the castle puts 800 years of history in context. If you're not particularly interested in history, then give it a miss. The point of it all will be lost on you. You would probably prefer a "phoney" Irish Pub in Temple... more

The state apartments are beautiful and the undercroft is a fascinating look at medieval Dublin. Unfortunately, the tour is simply too long leading to sore feet and backs. 30 minutes of history lectures could have easily been left out without being missed. This was a waste of Euro's. There is nothing really to see here the rooms are not laid out as they would have been used by Royalty and the tours are not very well informed. When we first arrived at Dublin Castle, I wasn't terribly impressed and there didn't seem to be much there. However, we took the State Apartment tour and really enjoyed it. The tour guide gave a lot of history about the Castle, and we saw the state rooms as well as the original foundations underneath. It was all very interesting. more
