We visted the Book of Kells on the morning of our last day in Dublin. We avoided the line problem by getting there early. I believe it opens at 9:30 am. We arrived around 9:15 and were second in line. As a result, we were also able to stand practically by ourselves and enjoy examining the Book of Kells as... more

If you do nothing else in Dublin, take the time to see this. We visited in early June 2008, in mid-afternoon, and had zero wait time getting in. There were a number of people inside, but we could spend as long as we wanted looking at the actual book, rotating in and out as needed. The exhibits prepare you to... more

We visited Trinity College in September of 2007 and were very pleased with our view of the Book of Kells. There was a wait to be admitted, although we'd thought we were quite early, and the rooms were all crowded (the gift shop, the room with well-designed boards describing the way the book was made, and the display room itself).... more

I might have been able to absorb the "essence" of the Book of Kells. Although Trinity College has a "system" of only allowing so many in at a time, once you get to the viewing chamber, it's all chaos! Instead of there being a guide to move the line along either clockwise or counter-clockwise, once you enter the room, people... more

Really dont recommend that you spend any time seeing the Book of Kells unless you are greatly religious and think you would get some pleasure out of looking at 3 pages of writing that you dont understand. Or if you are studying art of the 7th century. The first room you enter is a load of boards telling you how... more

I have had the honor of seeing the Book of Kells twice. Once in March of 2007 and there were far less tourist and we got to stick around a bit longer. The second time was in August of 2007 and we barely got a glimspe of it. Before you enter the room where the Book of Kells is, you... more

You can't help but be awed when you see the Book of Kells. The college does a nice job of preparing you in the rooms before for what you'll be viewing. Every darn tour bus stops here- so be prepared for crowds. Show up early and get in line for when the doors open at 9:30 a. And yes, the... more

The Book of Kells on display (a page of it) at Trinity College was absolutely wonderful! You could close your eyes and be back to that time of Ireland's early Christianity. The people were wonderful everywhere we went. Not one person was rude or nasty, and almost everyone went out of their way for us. Going back in October to... more

As the previous reviewer mentioned, get there early (about 30-45 mins) since they only let in about 20 people at a time. What's really amazing is the Long Room, which is up the stairs after seeing the Book of Kells. It's like something out of Harry Potter - truly amazing to see over 200K books from the 1400s to 1900s... more

Simple advice - if at all possible, get there early – c. 8.45 for 9.30 opening, to get at the front of the queue. Go straight through the exhibition to the ‘Book’ – go back and see the exhibition later – this way you can try and get five minutes or so mainly to yourselves (or 5-6 others with the... more
