It's a beautiful place. The sheer amount of sumptuous furnishings, oil paintings, gilt edging, marble, chandeliers, etc is breathtaking. BUT - there were several negative aspects to our visit. As a day out, it requires some planning before going, as the facilities for visitors are not good enough. I would advise against taking kids there unless the weather forecast is... more

We arrived very very early only to find that the coach park was almost full so goodness knows what time they were parked up. After a long time queueing we eventually got inside only to be met by a huge dusty blue balloon in the shape of a dog. After that it was a joke. Who on earth wants to... more

It was utterly disgusting to see a shrimp hanging from the ceiling of Versailles. Jeff Koons’ exhibition at the Palace was totally a disgrace to the rich history of France. It was simply the wrong venue! more

We had a group of 20 persons and we had pre-arranged and PAID for a group reservation at a specified time. Our eventual entry into the place was about 1.5 hours AFTER our reserved time although we arrived exactly on time. Obviously there is a lot to see in the Palace, and the gardens are enormous. But the morons who... more

We spent a day in Versailels about three weeks ago. We bought our R.E.R. tickets AND the entrance tickets for the palace all at the Les Invalides metro/RER station in Paris. You get a roundtrip ticket and your entrance ticket, so once we got to versailels we skipped the long ticket lines (and it was hot that day) and pretty... more

We arrived on a Sunday. The queue to spend 25 Euros each to get in was about 2 hours long and my kids wouldn't wait. I cant fault their reasoning - it couldn't be as impressive as, say, the Vatican. Neither did they think it was worth 8 Euros to walk around the gardens. So we looked at the outside... more

The chateau is the nicest palace I have seen. Much nicer that Windsor or Bickingham, or Schoebrun or the Iperial Palace of Vienna. You buy a 1 day pass(25 euro) and gives you unlimited access to all the areas of the Palace. You start with the visit of the chateau. The chateaux is divided in 4 separate areas. However, the... more

The Palace is ok but having seen The Louvre a few days earlier I thought it was much the same only with furniture. If you like furniture you'll love the Palace! The queue to buy tickets was one of the longest I'd seen during my stay in Paris (August 2008) so was glad I'd bought the tickets in advance (known... more

We just returned from our holiday in Europe and have to say that Versailles was on the top of the beautiful sightseeings in Europe. To avoid crowds, we arrived to the Palace at 7.15 in the morning. We found parking space on the street which was cheaper than the main carpark. Gardens were already opened, so we wandered around for... more

I just returned back from a tour including Versailles that I traveled on with my company Explorica ( www.explorica.com ) educational travel. I really had no idea what to expect and had heard mixed reviews from those who had visited Versailles. I must say that I was blown away! I have been to many palaces and castles in Europe, but... more
