This is a must and most likely you won't miss it anyways as the heart of old Firenze is under it's watchful gaze. My standard recommendation: if you have more than a couple days here take a hop-on-hop-off bus before you do anything and then choose where you wish to spend more time. more

The Duomo is without a doubt one of the most incredible architectural and artistic masterpieces of the world. Although there was still some scaffolding erected when we visited (they were in the process of cleaning soot from the structure), the sheer size of the building in itself was something to behold. The facade of the Duomo is detailed with the... more

Try to visit early in the day or save the duomo for later, after all the tour groups have left so you can enjoy the interior with some peace. There is no admission charge, which is nice, since most of the other major churches in Florence have a hefty fee. Bring your own guidebook and give yourselves a tour, though... more

A beautiful cathedral with magnificent frescoes. The dome (Duomo) is worth going to the top of. Not only do you enter into the dome on the walking (climbing) tour but you get to go outside on the roof and can see the entire city and surrounding area. The walk to the top is not for everyone though, well over 700... more

Notable for it's dome, the Duomo was great for a ten minute walk-through on a rainy day. The dome interior is beautiful (see my pictures for a neat 'balcony seating' effect painted on it). more

You can't miss the Duomo in Florence. The line to get inside the cathedral was a bit long, but it moved very fast. The art and architecture inside was just amazing to behold. Don't forget to visit the Duomo museum across the street. more

Easier and faster to climb than St. Peter's in Rome, although steeper at the end. Amazing view, definitely worth it. Just returned from 1 week trip to Florence and beware - quite a few things were closed for maintenance or restoration. Giotto's tower is closed until February 14th or so (we were disappointed - but there is no shortage of... more

You can't miss the Duomo in Florence. You see the Dome from all parts of the city so need to get a close up view of the church as well. Entrance to the Duomo is free and photos are allowed inside. The church is extremely unique. Not only because of Bruneschelli's masterpiece of a dome, but also the outside which... more

We went into the cathedral first which was free and had amazing art in it . The queue looked long but it only took about 10 minutes. After the cathedral we decided to go up the dome. The queue was about 30 minutes and it was about €6 each (apart from children who were free). There are 463 spiral steps... more

Obviously, if you visit Florence you'll see the Duomo. If possible, go inside. Entrance is free. You need sensible cloth like in any italian church. Unfortunately, tourists can only wander on the back half of the cathedral, without chairs; and it's unpractical for looking at some paintings. If you can, you might go up the Campanile (bell tower) - 413... more
