While the Hofburg Palace includes many different areas to visit - including the apartments, the Silver Museum, and the Spanish Riding School - the only place I took the time to see was the National Archives/Reading Room, and it is beautiful! The Imperial Place is not just a palace but a big complex which houses a lot of different attractions. I started my visit with the key attraction of any palace: The Imperial's apartment. Hofburg Palace is located in the heart of the city of Vienna. For over 6 centuries it was the imperial home of the Habsburg royal family. This was the main palace of the rulers of Vienna for centuries. It cannot be fully described because of its many components. There is the park filled with beautiful statues of royalty and Mozart. The first thing you see in front are ruins dating back to the Roman period. The Hofburg is a major site and will take hours to see so plan accordingly. If you are staying anywhere near the ring, there is no need to plan this with the Spanish Riding School. Admission is expensive but worth the cost. The first exhibit... more

We visited the Hofburg in June 2006. First, we arrived at about 9:45 to get tickets for the Lipizzaner Morning Training Session. Getting tickets was no problem. The Training Arena is beauitful, with crystal chandeliers and classical music playing as the horses go through their exercise.
