We did not fight crowds nor did we have difficulty getting tickets for the tour. We actually went through on our own and stayed away from the large groups of cattle. The castle is so stunningly beautiful inside. Use the walkie talkie tour thing to find out about all the rooms and to go at your own pace. The gardens are are beautiful. There are tons of things to do, so take advantage! more

I visited Schonbrunn Palace this August but went with Globus tours. The guide was excellent but the pace was too fast and we only had 20 minutes to see the rest of the palace after the group tour...I would suggest at least an hour after or before an organized tour to look at the grounds. If you visit Vienna you must visit Schonbrunn Palace. It is simply magnificent. It is also very easy to get there. My advice is to forget about the hop on hop off tour, which I consider to be the poorest value I have ever experienced. Instead, get the Underground from the City Centre to Schonbrunn.
