Despite Istanbul's famous ancient sites, we thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the modern art museum there. Located on the waterfront a 15 minute walk from the nearest tram stop. The museum is set back from the main road so you will have to walk in the entrance for cars and pass the parking booth attendant to get there. The exhibits... more

Housed in a renovated warehouse right on the Bosporus, Istanbul Modern is a delightful counterpoint to the many ruins, mosques, palaces and bazaars that are the mainstay of the Istanbul tourist experience. Don't be dissuaded by the "Modern" title. While it has many similarities to the better-known MOMA in NYC, it's not all funky soup cans and avante-garde art installations.... more

After seeing the great sights of yesterdays, I craved an experince of today. This museum is a success. An old building perfectly renovated specifically to show ART! As so much in Istanbul, its proximity to the Bosphorus gives it a timless feel. The ART is often elegant, charming and even challenging. They have a theatre for all kinds of lectures... more

Great selection of art from past 100 years. Well described and presented. Excellent gift shop with some unusaul bits and pieces. Uber cool cafe, packed with locals " doing lunch". Only 7YTL to get in and great view of the Bosphorous. Jump off a tram at Fidikli. Afterwards head to the little nearby strip of Negirle (Hubbly bubbly) cafes for... more
