After the bustle of the city, the Summer Palace is a welcome retreat from the noise and traffic congestion. We visited this past September, and spent the day wandering the grounds. It's definitely worth the visit. If not visiting with a tour group, I suggest taking the metro to Wudaokou station, and then a cab. Much cheaper than a cab... more

We thought the Summer Palace is just another pagoda type architecture but we were awed by the beauty and vastness of the place. Very scenic and picturesque. There is even a lake (man-made) inside the gounds of the Summer Palace where you can go boating. We had a great time visiting this place. more

I'm astounded that there is such a dearth of reviews on this site of the Summer Palace in Beijing. I didn't visit it until my second trip to Beijing, and was a bit skeptical before going there, having braved the throngs at the Forbidden City, falling all over each other to...Not Get Close to the various imperial chambers and such.... more

Of all the sites I visited in Beijing, the Summer Palace is my favorite. It was so amazing to walk along the waterside which appears to be totally natural.
