Machu Picchu is a destination adventurous travelers dream about so it's only fitting that, if cost is no object, you arrive in style. The Hiram Bingham is an Orient Express train that runs from Poroy, just outside of Cusco, to Aguas Calientes, the town closet to the ruins of Machu Picchu, and back. The trip takes approximately 3 1/2 hours... more

I travel quite a bit for pleasure and I like to mix with the locals for added color. On a recent trip to Cusco, Peru, however, I missed my bargain train to Machu Picchu and was forced to take the more expensive and luxurious Hiram Bingham Train by Orient Express with 5-Star service. What a happy accident. I was a... more

We were a group of 12 travelling on the Hiram Bingham to Machu Picchu and were treated like royalty. From the night before, when they delivered overnight bags to our hotel in Cusco, to the very end, it was an amazing experience. When we arrived at the train station, our bags were stowed, we were given a glass of champagne... more

I echo the positive comments made by prior reviewers about the train ride itself. My only issue was with the arrival in Aguas Calientes. When you step off the train, you are in a maze of vendor stalls with no indication of where you should go. We were completely lost and wandering in search of the bus to Macchu Picchu.... more

Having paid so much for the trip, I expect good food, good services and nice decor. I was not disappointed. However, as compared with the Andean Explorer ( first class) which we took later to Puno, we did not find the latter in any way inferior to the Hiram Bingham. In fact, it is even better in some ways, as... more

We booked our trip on the Hiram Bingham through the Guest Services agent at our hotel (Monasterio) two weeks before our arrival. This was much more convenient than dealing with the bizarre system used by Perurail. This three and a half hour ride was almost as much a highlight of our trip as was Machu Picchu itself! We arrived at... more

From the moment we arrived in Cusco, checked in at the Monasterio to the Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu, we felt everything was magic around us. Monasterio is unique, the service is unparallel, it is more than excellent service you are pampered, the site/building feels like going back in time. The rooms are superb and very comfortable. Having travelled... more

We took the Hiram Bingham from Cusco as part of our honeymoon and it was worth every penny, especially the outward bound trip when there were only 6 other people on the train. The service was impeccable, the decor beautiful and the food delicious. When you see the other classes of train on offer from the windows, you just know... more

i arranged an individual package with Orient Express to stay at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, take the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu (the Hiram Bingham does not run on Sunday), stay at the Sanctuary Lodge and return Monday on the Hirham Bingham. The two hotels were outstanding. The Monasterio exceeded our expectations. The Hiram Bingham was another matter. We... more

We caught the Hiram Bingham as the "splurge" part of our trip to South America. Yes it is expensive but we enjoyed every minute. Right from the pre train drinks at the Poroy Station, through the beautiful meals, first class service and stunning scenery we could not fault it. As part of the deal you get a guided tour of... more
