This is by far the best place ever to visit on holiday! It was absolutely stunning, and as the photos show a never to be forgotten experience. For US$180 you could get wrapped up on a plastic gown, gloves and bootees ( to protect the panda from human germs ) and hold a young panda for 5 minutes! The money... more

I travelled to China during December of 2007 for the sole reason of visiting the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base near Chengdu. It was well worth it and provided memories to last a lifetime. : ) A cab ride from central Chengdu costs approximately 40RMB and will take about 20-25 minutes. Once at the base, you can take time to... more

I have recently returned from a trip on April 14, 2007 to the research base and have to rate this as one of the most AMAZING experiences I have been fortunate enough to experience. The base is approx 45 minutes north of the city of Chengdu and I can highly recommend the services of an English speaking local Chengdu tour... more

This place is fantastic and not to be missed. We had considered not going to Chengdu but are so glad we did. We saw lots of Pandas of different ages and they were quite active, especially the babies. I paid RMB 1000 to be able to hold a baby Panda (approx 5 months old) for around 4 - 5 minutes.... more

Anyone visiting Chengdu must take an afternoon to see the Giant Panda Reserve. It is about an hour outside the city centre by taxi. You are able to see Pandas almost in their natural environment as they have plenty of space around them. They are absolutely incredible to watch. They spend most of their day eating bamboo, in fact they... more

I have just returned from Chengdu and my visit to see the pandas at the Panda Research Base. It was a truly memorable visit and one which I will never forget. I actually got to stand next to a panda and stroke and touch her head and ears while the keepers took my photo. Wonderful! It cost about $50 to... more

I was at the Panda base in 2004 and loved it. We went in October, weather was still nice, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Not sure how many pandas we saw, maybe 20 or more. It was very nice and unexpected in China to be the only ones at this kind of place, definitely more pandas... more

I went to the Panda Research Base (also a nice park) on Nov.19 at 9:30am and found the pandas being fed at 10am. The nursery was closed, but we were able to see a baby panda and mother through an exterior window; it was awesome to see the mother and baby interacting. Close-up views of the dozen or more pandas... more

This is a terrific, well-maintained and human Panda park, landscaped and designed in the "Open Zoo" concept a la the San Diego zoo, so you see the animals in a faux-natural habitat, without cages, under the open sky and with lots of space around them. The panda enclosures are located a nice, leisurely walk in from the entrance, past a... more
