If you are any type of adventurous person at all, you will love the Durango to Silverton train ride. My wife and I took the trip in July of this year (2008), and it was simply awesome. The scenery is more than fantastic, and the journey exciting to say the least. The sights, the sounds and the smells give you... more

We heeded the reviews here and rode the bus to Silverton and the train back to Durango. Our bus driver was funny and interesting, and the scenery was beautiful and different from what we saw from the train. Silverton itself is a charming, if incredibly touristy, little town nestled among gorgeous mountains. The Victorian buildings are original and quaint. My... more

Rode the train today and thought I'd sum up my opinions while still fresh! I read the other reviews prior to riding and will emphasize which were great/legitimate advice... A) It is a long, non-narrated train ride (3.5 hrs) - do not consider if you are a type-A personality and cannot sit still that long. It's a fantastic experience for... more

After much research and asking around, we decided to book a jeep/train combo with Mild to Wild. They took us to Silverton by bus and then we picked up a jeep tour through the Animas Forks, which was a lot of fun. We then had about an hour and a half to explore Silverton, have a bite and catch the... more

Just a great experience all around! One option available to all passengers is to take a bus either way with your train ride. We decided to take the bus ride option up to Silverton because we had an open car in the cold thin morning air. We were glad we did because we got to pass through the riders from... more

We went during the winter trip (April 29) so the train went only to Cascade. Still tfour hours was more than enough. The only seats left were coach so we did not have the parlor car experience. While the trip was beautiful, a class trip of third-graders made the voyage pretty miserable. I don't blame the children for being so... more

The city of Durango has done a great job maintaining and marketing this cute excursion. My husband and I rode on March 9th in the vintage (enclosed) car on the abbreviated winter excursion that goes midway to Silverton. It departs at 10 am and arrives back at 3:05 pm. which was long enough for us. We were glad it wasn't... more

Our family (2 adults and 2 kids, ages 7 & 9) rode the train in July of 2007. We decided to take the bus from Durango to Silverton and ride the train back to Durango. We were so glad that we chose this option. The bus goes over the mountains and the train goes through the mountains, along the Animas... more

I was one of 6 & not all that keen on spending $150+ for the parlor car, nor to happy to spend an entire vacation day on a choo choo train. I was wrong, spend the money on the parlor car, the back platform is worth every penny, the car (and service)is original, amazing & beautiful. The ride is breathtaking... more

I've been dreaming of taking this trip for most of my life. It did NOT disappoint! We went during the first week in October. This date was chosen specifically to see the fall colors in the Animas Canyon, and they were truly amazing. Seating wasn't too comfortable, but that's not the scope of this trip. If you want comfortable seating,... more
