Went with my husband & 14 year old son who all thought this was a highlight of our 10 days in Tas. Being quite claustrophobic & turning up on the day to see I couldn't open the windows or get out I upgraded us all to premium class (yes, it is expensive). Two things made it really worthwhile. The pricing of the West Coast Wilderness Railway is above European mountain railways which is saying something! The line was restored several years ago through a Commonwealth Government grant. The reconstruction of the railway encountered many difficulties but thank goodness it was seen through to completion. We travelled on the train in late March 08 and had a fantastic time. Great activities along the way (we found gold at a gold-panning lesson and we go to keep it!) and our tour guide was excellent. We did the WCWR in mid August 2007. It was a very worthwhile experience and I would highly recommend it. It's a great way to fill in a day.
