I was recently in Portland and made a stop to Powell's. My only regret is that I did not give myself enough time to shop! They have about 7 different rooms full of books (get the map or else you might get lost). There are books you see in an everyday bookstore, but a lot of the books are gently... more

I liked it! I'm not a huge reader but it was fun to go and look around. The store is cool because it take up so much interior space that you forget you are in a city! more

I must say that I really enjoy going to Powell's. It was one of the first places I visited after my initial trip to Portland some time ago. The Main branch is lovely for spending a rainy afternoon (Quite a few of those in PDX!!) I have to agree with a previous reviewer, that SOME of the staff seem annoyed... more

Books, funky stationery, tshirts featuring the store cat (we did not meet) - you can find something to take home @ Powell's. As bookaholics, we went there several times on a short visit to Portland (May '08) & were initially blessed by the Parking Fairy w/on street parking near the store. Luckily, a friend who lives there showed us the... more

Let me start by saying that I love Powell's! Going to Powell's while in Portland has always been a real treat for me...until yesterday. I know it's the holiday season, & holiday shoppers must be the vexation of any retail worker this time of year. Regardless, if you sign up for the gig then you should be prepared to paste... more

I love Portland. And, any time I come to Portland, I make every effort to go to Powell's. Why? Because where else can you spend all day looking at books (and so many books) that often you can't find elsewhere? So, yes! If you love books, go to Powells. However, try to take public transportation, walk to the store or... more

I visited Powell's downtown and their Hawthorne location. Both have a friendly staff and more books that one can fully comprehend. The main downtown location is completely overwhelming but in a good way! A must see! more

What better place than Powells to go to on a rainy day ? They have this great little coffee shop where you can sit by the window and read and have a bite and chat with a friend about the books that you want to buy. There are nooks and crannies all over the store where you can take your... more

Powell's Bookstore is wonderful, although a bit confusing because of it's size. Their parking garage is, however, horrible! The place looks like it's about to collapse, and is dangerous beyond doubt. The parking attendants don't have a clue. We tried to park here, but ended up leaving. Be prepared to honk your way through the parking garage because of a... more

I am a die-hard booklover, and I found Powell's overwhelming in a good way. Powell's is a huge bookstore with multiple floors and a selection of books for almost anything you can think of. I thought it was a great place to spend an afternoon browsing. They have a little independant coffee shop, and of course -- endless shelves of... more
