I brought my family to Kauai this past April/May for vacation. My wife and I had visted Kauai and Polihale Beach on our honeymoon seven years ago (2001) and thought it was time to return and introduce our two young children to our favorite place in the world. During our first visit to Kauai, we ventured the dirt road leading... more

First of all, to get to this secluded beach you have to travel down a dirt road (it seemed like forever) for a few miles. It's kind of bumpy so I would recommend a 4x4. Caution...I did see a 4x4 pulled over with a flat. So, don't go too crazy. But, once you get there it's amazing! We pretty much... more

We decided to go here after hearing rave reviews. First, I want to say that the roads leading to the beach are filled with potholes galore, please don't let this deter you in any way! Secondly, it is going to feel like you have been driving for a long time before you reach the beach, but keep on trucking! Can... more

We went to Polihale Beach on our first day in Kauai. We were a little concerned about the dirt road leading to the beach as we heard it was hard to get through. So we rented a Jeep and the drive wasn't bad. We also saw a lot of people in regular cars that were not 4WD and they seemed... more

This is the most amazing beach you will ever visit. Like the other reviews say, it is an experience in itself taking the long dirt road to this place. Make sure you take a 4x4. Make sure you bring plenty of water and something to shade yourself. It is quite hot and windy...also deep sand. The beach is miles long... more

What a great beach! This is the widest beach in Hawaii and longest (17 miles) I believe. The Na Pali coast begins from the northern end of this beach. We took a picnic and watched the sunset after riding some waves and taking some photos. There are bathrooms and outdoor showers on site. Also camping is allowed. The only negative... more

This is in my thought the best beach in Hawaii (that i've been to). Getting to the beach is a little tricky. Follow the signs for Polihale state park and look for a dirt road to the left.. pretty close to the end of the highway. The signs say park closed but i go ahead and ignore that. The dirt... more

I was camping in Kauai at Anini Beach and decided to try out Polihale for a nite. It was amazing. After traveling down a dirt road for 35-40 minutes in a Chevy Trailblazer, I found a campsite near a local. He didnt have 4WD as he was driving an old Honda Accord and didnt need it to get to his... more

Polihale Beach is incredible! We were staying on the east shore and we went there two days because we enjoyed it so much! At first, the long dirt road leading there is kind of creepy, but totally worth it! This beach is not crowded at all either. There is no shade there so be sure to take plenty of water... more

Hot dry side of the island, but a lot less crowded especially since everyone leaves right after sunset to get back to their hotels. We only camped here one night. The facilities are less than crummy, with a shower in the back that we didn't notice until to late, and there were loud locals here, but not as bad as... more
