Kailua beach is a calm beach with kayaking and windsurfing opportunities. Usually the waves are small and enjoyable for young children. Kailua Beach Park - we were looking for the calm, sandy beach area but found no beach (rather, a heavily eroded steep area/ledge leading to the water). The waves were so strong it knocked me over. Hubby isn't a big beach person, so we just made brief stops. We did play in the ocean here and found the ocean floor to be pretty sandy so we didn't hurt our feet much. You can rent kayaks and paddle out to the bird sanctuary island - which is supposed to be beautiful. more
