Compared to Waikiki, this is a much quiet beach. The water is very clear and clam; perfect for lap swimming. I am a weak swimmer who usually can't swim well in the sea, but I have no problem at all with this one. The scenery of this park is great too. Easily assessable from Ala Moana Center. Nice beach, much better than Waikiki. Semi-enclosed lagoon at Magic Island is also a very safe place for the weak swimmer and children, even during the height of high summer crashing waves. Weekdays are best to come, as the park has much less people. Weekends/holidays and it's packed by local picnic groups, which means parking can be nearly impossible and... more

Just returned from a wonderful 2 week vacation with my husband and 4 kids (10.8,2 and 10 months). I had been to Honolulu before but not with children so I researched a lot of things online before I left. This is the best place to relax without the crowds of Waikiki. Its quiet and calm. The waters are perfect for swimming. Lots of people do lap swimming here. I highly recommend going there! more
