This enormous, wholesale fish market is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tokyo. Each morning thousands of pounds of fish and seafood are auctioned off to buyers; most of the action occurring between 5:00 and 9:00 a.m. every day but Sunday.

According to legend, two brothers kept trying to return a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, to the Sumida River only to have it returned to them the next day. This temple located in Tokyo's Asakusa district was built to honor her.

This temple is known for its fire ritual, which is performed several times a day. Visitors wishing to know their fortunes can purchase paper oracles from vending machines located on the grounds or pay a visit to one of the local soothsayers.
