Spend a day or two, in wine country. Posh resort rooms, a picnic at the V. Sattui winery. What more does Romance need? Head to COPIA, the American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts in the heart of town. Have lunch there, then drive around and find a charming vineyard you like, take a tour, learn the business of wine and champagne making. Do a wine-tasting. Mumm has a great cafe overlooking the vineyard. Beringer and Mondavi are also two popular choices. Mondavi even has a summer concert series. The slow pace, the beautiful scenery is sure to bring a smile to any couple. Most upscale hotels will have some sort of wine package deal going on. if not, just ask your concierge for advice! Also, if you find a new favorite, ship a case back home. prices are surpirsingly reasonable. Great gifts. |

The drive to Yosemite is far. Stay overnight at a charming inn on the south rim of the park. Light a fire in the fireplace, open up one of those bottles from Napa, have a romantic dinner. |

Drive down to Carmel-by-the-sea. Take a romantic drive on the 17 mile stretch with scenic golf courses on the one side, the ocean on the other. Breathe in the salty sea air, take the roof down and relax. Visit the Carmel Mission.
Stay in Carmel [the Barnyard is good place for a light lunch] or drive on to Monterey for lunch and sightseeing. Walk around and find a place you like. My advice: stay overnight on the Montery Peninsula before driving back to San Francisco. |

| Ah. You're back. Well, you have one last chance to shop. May as well stay in the Union Square area, and shop to your heart's content. Everything from the posh five-stars to the affordable Holiday Inns, and trandy boutique hotels are a perfect walk to the Union Square area. Don't forget a jaunt into Chinatown. |
