Hix Island House by Frequent Caribbean Travelers We've stayed many times in Vieques at another hotel on the Island, but the Inn had a change in ownership, and we wanted to try something different for our return to Vieques for the February get-away. Hix Island House fit the bill. We stayed for ten days in Tiangular House in the Matisse... more

All I can say is "wow!" My girlfriend and I just returned from a magical four day stay at Hix. We stayed in the Adobe Loft, which was on the ground floor with a very private patio on which we got massages one afternoon. The trip was one of the most relaxing I have ever had and our stay was... more

This is the perfect place for us! With our windows &door always open day and night, the ocean breezes came through our room all the time - the bed was as comfortable as could be - the pillows were good, the linens were wonderful. I absolutely loved my Neeva Gayle shirt - I had to buy one before I went... more

My wife and I just returned from a nearly 3 week visit to Puerto Rico, the USVI, and St. Marteen. We stayed in many wonderful places, but by far the best was the Hix Island House. We stayed in the Casita ... the architecure was terrific, the setting wonderful and the staff/owners friendly and helpful (and the fresh eggs and... more

If you are looking to get away with your sweetheart ,from the hustle and bustle of the big city, this is the place to go! I went to the Hix Island House for the Christmas and New Year's Holiday with my boyfriend. We absolutley loved it! When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with our room-lofts as they call them.... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hix Island House. The room was open-air and it was really great to hear all the frogs and birds during the evenings. We had a mosquito net over the bed and only had problems with bugs at dawn and dusk. The kitchen was well-appointed with a blender, coffee grinder and french press and... more

While we had a wonderful time on Vieques, I don't know that I'd stay at Hix again after our experience. Most of the bugs were avoidable by wearing bug spray all the time - it is open air, so this is a necessity - sleeping under the mosquito netting in the room. However, I was eaten alive by bedbugs, which... more

Management response from

We take every guest's concerns very seriously here at the Hix House, and responded to this complaint thoroughly and promptly. Despite finding nothing in the bed, we still removed all of the bedding material, sprayed thoroughly, and remade the bed with brand new sheets and egg crate mattress. When she moved to another loft, she had the same complaint. When...

A friend and I stayed here while in Vieques for a wedding. Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor, I was at least forewarned about what kind of experience this would be, but I never expected it to be as extreme as it was. As others have stated here, there are people who love this hotel and the experience they... more

A week at the Hix House isn't like anything else. The architectural lofts are painstakingly designed and appointed -- full breakfast is in your fridge and every detail is proactively considered. But it's different -- no windows means you're sleeping with stars and nature in view and within earshot; mosquito nets protect you when necessary (which was rare; there weren't... more

The Hix House is a perfect way to decompress from your busy, stressful lifestyle. If ever you want to "get away from it all", book several days at the Hix House and you won't regret it. Quite honestly, a day or two doesn't quite do it. You really need at least 4 days to appreciate the laid back environment of... more
