The Camino Real deserves its reputation as a great historic hotel. The public areas and the courtyards are really lovely. I particularly liked the pool area, although the pool itself is shallow the lush garden around it is beautiful. If you do go get an interior room. We stayed in an exterior room on the ground floor. Yes this is the most pricy hotel in Oaxaca, there is no doubt about that. But the hotel is lovely and the service standards are very high. My family and I visited Oaxaxa in June of 2006 and stayed 3 nights at the Camino Real. This is a beautiful old building. There is charm everywhere you look. The restaurant has a fabulous setting and it opens into a charming garden. The staff is great, our room/suite was magnificent and I will go back again any time. more
