After reading up on Trip Advisor about Papaya Playa before we left for Mexico my boyfriend and I were a little worried that we would be arriving at a complete dump. If you've been to South East Asia and have stayed in beach huts this is basically the same thing and was actually what I was hoping for. The service... more

My friend and I stayed at Papaya for several days and were not only horrified by the pitiful standard of cleanliness, but found the owner, Sergio to be a total sex pest. He persistently harrassed us and we also noticed that he was doing the same with other female guests. The beautiful surroundings compensated us to a degree. However, we... more

Here's the skinny on Papaya Playa and the cabana scene in general as we saw it. If you're up for rustic, camping style cabanas with a gorgeous beach and don't want to pay more than $50/night in the high season, then Pplaya is a good place; just remember, you pay for what you get and there are some things you... more

We reserved 5 nights and left after 3 and by the time we left we didn't even care about the money they wouldn't refund. I agree with the others who were disappointed by the cabana's. There was an extention cord fed into the room with a light bulb, no other electricity and only the light for 5 hours. The paths... more

we would like to tell you about our stay in "papaya playa" tulum mexico. in short: dirty cabanas, bed bugs, the owner not refunding the 55$ because we complained about his site. we went there and asked to stay for 2 nights in a cabana. the price was 55$ a night. we payed in advance. 1. three hours after checking... more

There are many things to complain about. I will start in alphabetical order: E) Expensive: Very expensive for uncomfortable bungalows, we were much more comfortable sleeping in the shared hamocks outside. Expensive food. M) Mosquitos: we were eaten by mosquitos even with net which had holes everywhere. S) Sergio (owner/manager): Rude, temper problems, obnoxious, profit seeker. Yelled at a nice... more

My wife and I brought our two-year-old down to Tulum to just find some tranquility on the beach and pretty much found it here. It has a very nice spread of beach and the cabanas are simple but fairly priced. We weren't looking for any special services or amenities, just a cool, unpretentious place to stay and relax and we... more

These cabanas are great for the traveler on a budget and enjoys nature - pretty much the "Jeff Corwin Experience"! My cabana had a clean comfortable bed with new mosquito net and sm. table. The bathrooms were cool and quite clean. The simple things on the menu were fine. You are an 8 minutes walk from Zamas, the best place... more

I'm usually very laid back & tolerant but I've gotta weigh in on this place. My wife & I checked in Mar 10/2007 with no prior reservations as we were "wingin' it" - not a good idea along Tulum's beaches. After some tedious negotiations with the front desk, we moved into a cabana with a bathroom. No hot water in... more

After having arrived after booking a Cabana with a bathroom, they had none and we stupidly agreed to accept a cabana without a bathroom and have a free dinner to compensate. We were taken to our cabana and were speechless over how rank it was. The webiste makes the place look clean and classy. The cabana had 2 beds with... more
