My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Papaya Playa in Tulum. We paid $30 for a private, concrete floor bungalow with shared bath/shower (note: in order to make a reservation online, Papaya Playa requires full payment in advance). The room was spartan, with just a double bed, mosquito net, small table, and chair. There are no electrical outlets in the... more

Rented a large (3 bed) cabana that was 15 steps from the beach. It was as clean as I'd expect given its location and doors that opened practically on to the beach. Ate several reasonably priced meals there that we enjoyed (the best food here and in other Tulum spots is fish/ceviche and they don't seem to serve it unless... more

Very dishonest Manager (sergio) and also rude. Dirty rooms and showers. No hot water. Expensive food. Avoid this place if you want to have good time in Maya region. We escaped after one night stay and Manager wanted tyo charge us for extra nights. There are better places and people then Papya and Sergio. more

If you like nature and good attention, this is the place you should go. It is a rustic ecologic tipe hotel, but as I said before it is the paradise. Even when it´s raining. We went in 03/2006 and I recomend you to go here. I will add photos later. more

Well I've just read all the reviews on the place that I'm about to write about & it is good to know that other people are taking time out to say "it's the worst hotel (if you can call it that)" that I have ever stayed in. $90 per night for a room with 3 girls sharing. One of us... more

The place is overpriced for what you get - don't book in advance as you will pay over the odds. They gave us a big discount which makes it worth the money as a budget place to stay in Tulum. The food and service is not good - eat elsewhere!!! Clean bathrooms and a great beach made up for the... more

Don't go near this place. The owner Sergio is only interested in money. When things go wrong he claims not be the owner but drives around in a new BMW?! 2005 may have been a tough season after 2 hurricanes but all other hotels/cabanas in Tulum offer resaonable value for money. Playa Papaya is a disgrace - overpriced and zero... more

Right away from the beginning this hotel was completely unorganised. Yet as all hotels were pretty much booked we had to stay for two nights. We made our reservation by phone, asking for a bungalow with own bath and shower. They said for 80 USD they have one room available. But upon arrival all of a sudden they wanted 100... more

If you want to overspend this is the place. One can spend a lot less for a lot more comfort and care. If you want a room for very expensive with no chairs, no electricity and a bath room five minutes away this is the place for you. I would of rather have camped for less money. We wanted our... more

This was the only hotel we visited in Mexico which wanted full payment by internet before we arrived and now I know why! Situated on the beach of Tulum, the website makes the accomomdation look fabulous. The reality is very different. The bar and eating areas were dirty and the cabanas were even worse and in a general state of... more
