I would love to write a positive review of Roca Mar, but just can't do it. Construction noises woke us up every morning at 7:30am and we had to cover our things just to try and keep all the dust out of our clothes, on the beds, all over the floor, etc. Dust was everywhere and we were without water... more

I went here under the high recommendation of friends. I stayed but 3 nights and moved to another hotel. The hotel changed hands in April. Jabes, a wonderful man who gave me a lead on a second hotel, was let go after 10 years at the Roco-mar. He was so kind and helpful. The noise and dust for the construction... more

We spent 3 nights here. A great location - the sea is right outside your room and you sure can hear those waves! The room was fine, clean and spacious with attractive blue bedspreads - but it was also pretty worn and scruffy. The fan and doors had been sloppily painted over in a very unattravive pink/brown colour and the... more

Hotel is inexpensive but comfortale, perched on a cliff side. Ask for a outward facing room - the sound and sight of the wavs crashing aainst the island is awesome. Rooms are clean and large enough, with OK bathroom and shower. Not a 5* hotel by any means, but does not profess to be. more

Let me begin by saying if you are looking for luxury you need to stay at Nablam or Avalon or something. If you want to really experience the island or are on a budget, I suggest Roca Mar or somewhere similar...If you would like any information about Isla Mujeres please contact me. I researched the place for months and then... more

We just returned from an 8 night stay at Roca Mar. We will definitely go back. The staff was great, and very friendly. Rooms are basic, but perfect. Some rooms have a fridge, others do not. It comes in handy. Two beds, bath, great size patio, dressers, hangers and pole. Our room was right on the Carribean Sea, litterally feet... more

Very friendly people (I think the cranky guy everyone mentions is gone). Very clean. Right on the town square where the big supermarket is. In walking distance of North Beach and lots of restaurants. The pool was a nice place to hang out in the afternoon after siesta, as were the hammocks by the pool. Is literally on the Caribbean... more

Stayed 8 days in Jan 2006. The man that runs it is supposed to have a soft inside but we sure never saw it. Grumpy and downright intimidating. The loud crashing waves lulled one of us to sleep and kept the other awake every night. The showers are definately not the best on the island. Takes a long time for... more

I'm just back from my 2nd stay at the Roca Mar with the same 3 people I stayed there with 5 years ago and we loved it as much as the first time. The site - right on, practically in, the Caribbean, is the main attraction. If you want to hear waves pounding just below you all night, this is... more

For convenience, and an overall great introduction to Isla, Roca Mar makes a great home base. The rooms are rather spartan, but very clean and offer great prices when you consider its central location and the fact that it's right on the water (Atlantic or Caribbean side). The fresh breezes meant that air conditioning wasn't needed. We travelled with people... more
