The house which was built in 1898 of Lakeland slate has recently been refurbished and modernized, combining original features with a contemporary feel. As the owner is a practicing artist, the walls are decorated with original art works. We have just spent a fully relaxing and enjoyable weekend at Thorncliffe. I'm very surprised at the previous review as we found much the opposite. Amanda, our host, was very welcoming and gave us lots of information about the local area and what was on. We were instantly made to feel at home. The decor was warm and the artwork... more

This B&B has been recently refurbished to a fairly high standard, Amanda your host 'wears sensible trousers', and is an artist, with her own works (which are for sale) adorning the walls. We stayed at Thorncliffe during the school holidays. We split the week between 4 different B&B and this one was surely the best one we have stayed in The Lakes... The room was really clean and the host was really welcoming. We will surely be using Thorncliffe again on our next trip to Windermere... more

We stayed at Thorncliffe for 3 nights and don't think we could have found a nicer place to stay. The rooms were cosy with good facilities, and the host, Amanda, couldn't have been more accommodating.
