I, and four friends, have just come back from a one nights stay in the Carlton Hotel. As it was Ladies Day at Newcastle races, this was a very busy weekend, and I had trouble finding a hotel with a triple and twin room, and this hotel was one of my last finds, and reading the other reviews for this... more

Stayed here last Saturday night - cost £86 for a double room inc b'fast. It was terrible, really horrible. Our room smelt, floorboards creaked from noisy neighbours and the receptionist can only be described as gormless. The breakfast was served in a student bar, complete with torn dirty seats. No one had cleared the breakfast tables. Stay away - I... more

this was a bit disappointing. we arrived to be put in the world's smallest double room only to be blown over by the heat in the room - the radiator was on full blast and wouldn't turn off!! Fortunately, the guys were great and without even questioning moved us to another room. it's fair to say that our new room... more

When I read some of the other reviews about this hotel I was a bit worried. However, on arrival I was very pleased to find a spacious clean room, decorated with warm colours. I stayed there on a sunday and monday night so perhaps it would be noisier on other days. I was never bothered by too much noise on... more

A good standard of accommodation for a 2* hotel - better than some 3* hotels I've stayed in. 3 of us stayed there and we all agreed it was excellent value, good service (pleasant and helpful) and a decent breakfast. The hotel has clearly been refurbished in recent years and the rooms were smart, clean and functional. The bathrooms were... more

I wish I had seen the last two reviews before I booked this place. Never again!! I came to give a paper at a conference and it was imperative that I get some sleep the night before. Impossible. The drunks start bellowing around 6 pm and don't stop till the wee hours. I was grabbed on the street by one... more

This place is a complete dump. Most people I describe it to do not believe how bad it was. I had four rooms in three nights. ROOM 1 was on the top floor but the noise from the bar in the hotel and the street outside was atrocious as the area is basically where the drunks go to fight. ROOM... more

Don't know the last time my bathroom had a good clean. There were hairs on the floor and some worrying stains on the bathroom radiator. There is a raucous bar on the ground floor. Ok if you are just going to roll in late and sleep there. But there's a reason they still had rooms left when most of the... more
