Fab location, secure parking, my room was comforatable and spotless. Good buzz about the place dinner menu rather limited, however what I had was well prepared. Breakfast was ok, I think I got in after the first rush as the cold buffet was rather depleted, staff replenished it though. I am a regular business traveller to the west mids and... more

After being booked in a cookie cutter chain hotel I just walked up to the Plough and Harrow and was given a very good rate. Great old character in the 300yr old part of the building (lobby and dining room). Rooms are in an unfortunate 70;s addtion, the floor I was on has been refurbished and had a brand new... more

Thank you for you comments, it was pleasing to read a review that was honest but also gave the hotel recognition for the excellent service and comfortable surroundings that are offered to guests.

They say an experience is either good or bad, this was certainly the latter. The public bar, supposedly open to residents seemed to permanently have it's shutters down, to get a drink you had to search for a member of staff to get behind the shutters, god forbid you wanted to pay by cash after 10:30pm, you were told this... more

Sorry to read your comments, i do feel that some of the comments do not give a true picture of the hotel. With regards to the painting as stated we have been decorating and some jobs are unfinished before the weekend. The picture of the chandalier can be explained if asked due to the size of the light fittings they...

I stayed at the Plough and Harrow March 15th for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay very much the staff were most kind and helpful the food was lovely and breakfast was lovely the 2nd morning the first morning every thing was over cooked for some time. a hotel with lovely character but could do with some paint and new... more

I stayed here alone on business and on arrival thought the hotel looked derelict as there weren't many lights on but on walking into reception was pleasantly surprised. This is where the pleasantness ended. I was allocated a room and given directions. It was up stairs, down stairs, along dirty corridors, through large hallways and through tiny doors not big... more

Such a shame that this hotel does not live up to expectations and it horrifies me to see that there are reports on similar problems since 2004 on here! The room was okay, apart from being placed close to some very noisy double doors and flickering lights. the hotel has an extremely shabby appearance, which is a real shame given... more

Not the worst hotel I have stayed in but really they could do better. Tape to repair carpet on the stairs does not give a good impression and the bathroom had a rather unpleasant colour scheme of olive green, very early 70's. The tiles in the bathroom were also in need of a clean. This is the sort of hotel... more

Stayed 4 nights on a business trip. Found the hotel to be very tired; need of a facelift (better still knocking down & rebuilding to match the charm of the hotel frontage); there are numerous staircases with winding passages that are difficult to negotiate with luggage. There is not assistance from staff to help with the luggage. The rooms smell... more

Overly expensive for pretty shabby fair really, with Eastern European levels of service (no wonder given that most of the junior staff were Eastern European). Room was in a 2 storey annex of twisting corridors and stairs; ill fitting windows, dank and pretty smelly. If you have the option of breakfast don't...nip down the road to the McDonalds, you won't... more

Good public rooms, but the bedrooms are in a modern annexe down loads of corridors with masses of doors which are difficult to negotiate when you have luggage. The carpet on the stairs up to the second floor is held together with duck tape, and the rooms are generally a bit shabby. Definitely a £50 a night hotel, not worth... more
