We have just returned from 4 nights at the bank during the middle of the Edinburgh Festival. We were slightly apprehensive due to the mixed reviews we'd read of the hotel, but no need! It's not very quiet, being right on the Royal Mile and above a busy bar, but we were on the fourth floor and with double glazing... more

True, the bank Hotel is not your average chain hotel incarnation. It's first impression is downright quirky, but in this case, first impressions are deceiving. We stayed at the Bank Hotel for three nights, using the Alexander Graham Bell room on the top floor: a wonderfully decorated and spacious room with a great shower, a comfy king-sized bed and reasonably... more

I stayed for 2 nights mid-week in early June. The rooms are above the Bank Bar. You pick up your keys from the bar staff and then go through a door at the back of the bar up some stairs to the rooms above. I was in Room 3 which has a "Robert Louis Stevenson" theme. Decor featured pictures of... more

The hotel is in a great situation right in the middle of Edinburgh. Unfortunately that brings its' own problems in that it can be extremely noisy late at night. The room was ok but very gloomy, no central light and only 3 dim lamps. The bathroom was so so - the basin was cracked and stained and the extractor fan... more

Everything that I read lead me to believe that I was booking an ensuite room which I was extremely careful about. However, upon arrival I found out the bathroom was across the hall. When I complained and requested a different room, I was told everyone had checked in and there were no available rooms which was not true I later... more

This hotel is in an ideal location, however, it is located above a pub which we knew but has many other issues. The first is the bed. Our bed would creak as you turned and I could feel the springs underneath me. Yikes. Also, the plumbing is a huge ordeal. The toilet would flush when it felt like it. Very... more

This was our 2nd visit, if you want a location thats perfect for the Royal Mile during the Tattoo and fringe festival - look no further although you have to be fit to climb the 70 plus stairs to the top floor. Whilst the hotel could do with a bit of a face lift, this is a little piece of... more

Having looked for a hotel in Edinburgh, the Bank seemed idealy placed, but upon arriving! I knoew about the lack of lift and the stairs but there are many of them, and quite steep. One room does not have en suite facilities despite the hotel saying so, the rooms are tired and despite the themes could do withg a coat... more

Each room is themed on famous Scottish men. We were in the James Young Simpson room. I loved it. Very atmospheric and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A great central location. Also good night life in the bar. If you are looking for modern looking surroundings, this hotel is not for you but if you are looking... more

You can just imagine the big man climbing back to his room in the wee hours of the morning, cursing the stairs with every heavily-labored breath. We only spent one night at The Bank, but this is the place if you'll be stumbling back from wonderful nights of debauchery in Edinburgh. It's pretty good for sightseeing, too. As others have... more
