Stayed here cos it was near the castle, and we were going to see LEONARD COHEN which was the highlight of our stay. It is in a great location, right on Grassmarket, but there are some roadworks going on at the moment, although we really weren't bothered too much. I think this hotel will benefit very much when the work is... more

The hotel is a little hard to get to right now because of construction on the street. Parking is a good hike away, so drop your bags of first and then go park (hint.... you can park free on the street overnight and then go move your car to the parkade in the morning). Our first impressions were OK..... very... more

The hotel is in a good location, but somewhat run down, especially the bathroom. The beds are just awful, some of the worst I have ever seen. The biggest gripe is there is no lift to many of the rooms, we had to carry heavy luggage up four flights of stairs. The staff, overall, is uninterested in your satifaction. more

i stayed in this hotel on a business trip and i wish i'd stayed in the local hostel. On arrival into a dingy reception i was handed a worn out key and directed to a lift which had actual grafiti in it. I was told to go to the 2nd floor in the lift then get out of the lift... more

Couldn't possibly have picked a better location: the Grassmarket is right in the backyard of the Edinburgh Castle. Room was fine: very clean, comfortable, and plenty of storage. Front desk staff gave extra effort to help us find information about the places we wanted to visit. Pub downstairs is perfect for a nightcap. Some reviews have complained of noise; our... more

We stayed 2 nights at the Grassmarket hotel Thursday- Friday 16th-17th May 08. At the airport we caught the Express Bus £5-oo each return to the city centre. Booked direct with hotel well in advance and asked for a high floor, were given a 4th Floor room. This is needed as it does get noisy from the pubs and late... more

I stayed at the Grassmarket May 16-17, 2008. First of all, the location is prime, just steps from the castle and the Royal Mile. There's tons of bars and restaurants nearby and a popular pub right next door (and I didn't hear any noise from it in my room either). This location makes for an excellent home base in Edinburgh.... more

The Grassmarket is in an absolutely fantastic location and is above Biddy Mulligan's - a very fun pub. However, the rooms are extremely small and the hotel is quite rundown. In addition, one must park about half a mile down the road at the NTS public garage. Spend a few extra pounds and stay at the Apex across the street.... more

I stayed at the Grassmarket Hotel for the first time over Easter Weekend 2008, and I could not have been more pleased with my choice. I made the selection from the tripadvisor.co.uk reviews; it is a mixed review, and some complaints of noises and degree of cleanliness. First of all, noises do not bother me in the slightest, being a... more

The best part about this hotel is the location. It's close to all the touristy stuff and has plenty of exciting pubs nearby. The staff was also very pleasant. The rooms were decent sizes. However, the walls were thin and I felt every spring in the mattress. Despite some discomfort, the location made up for it. I didn't go to... more
