When we checked in our room was stifling: south-facing, no A/C, no ceiling or any other fans. Had to keep the window wide open all night. There were drunks yelling to each other at 3 a.m., 2-stroke motor scooters reved up to a zillion rpm tearing around in the wee hours, and more common traffic noises at other times. I... more
This has been a grand hotel in its day - however that is the problem, it has had its day! Some of the fitments in our room were shabby to say the least.. We were on the fifth floor and for the first few days of our stay, the only elevator did not work. It was a long walk... Paint... more
I spent 3 nights at this hotel with a friend in May 2007, paying a total of 270 euros between us. We spent some time in Pau whilst at University and wanted to revisit old haunts. We booked it because it was very central (opposite the post office, between Place Clemenceau and Cours Bosquet) and you could cancel the room... more
Arrived in Pau Airport, early, Ryanair had changed times. Best Western Continental reached by friendly lady taxi driver. We were very early about 11 am. However, they let us into our room. Great as we were very tired. Room adequatley furnished and clean. Our reasons for visiting Pau, one to set up a bank account - achieved by visit to... more
This hotel is in a very central location. Within walking distance of the Chateau, shopping, and places to eat. The hotel staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are very dated and in need of a makeover. However, it was built in 1912 and that is part of it's charm. The only elevator is very small so don't bring... more
Despite all the comments and the hotel 'blurb', this is definitely a two star hotel. The rooms are very dated (e.g. worn 'cheap' carpets, old fashioned bathrooms with stained tiles and grouting and no proper shower). In addition, the room in which I stayed was COLD. The windows didn't close properly and the bathroom in particular was so cold that... more
About three weeks ago we spent a few days in Pau. The hotel is splendid; the staff are very helpful and the location, in the centre of this lovely town, is just what you need on a short break. Someone has found that they were annoyed by traffic noise. That is surprising because the rooms are double glazed and we... more
Very noisy location. They advertise a shower but the hand held wand in the bathtub is mounted near the tub edge- too low for a shower. Hotel, room and resturant are lovely to look at. They told us breakfast was free and the first person who quoted the bill the amount was correct. When I gave my credit card the... more
Good location (within walking distance of castle) and staff was friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were nice. more
