The Hotel du Palais is perfectly situated in St. Malo. It is maybe a 2 minute walk from the ramparts (on the ocean side), and about the same to the cathedral and center of activity, but still enough away that it was quiet at night. We arrived very early, exhausted from a ferry crossing, and they had a room for us that had been unused the night before, so we were able to get in right away. I stayed at the Palais in December 2003 with my daughter. Although the hotel was undergoing redecoration (something endemic to St Malo hotels apprently) we were found a room at short notice.
