1. Rude front desk people 2. Very small room 3. TV didn't work 4. Smallest shower I've ever seen 5. Hair dryer didn't work 6. Decent location - close to train station and not a far walk to sites 7. We saw the breakfast and left to eat elsewhere. more

This is an old venetian building, labyrinthine and with some beautiful old floors and some huge mirrors, but growing old gracefully. Rooms are basic, modernised enough to have bathrooms and a tv, but still have wonderful old wooden shutters to keep out noise and cold or heat. Clean towels every day, and bed linen too often to be good for... more

Yes, the hotel has a great location, it is close to the train station, the restaurants around are the last to close at night, which is very convenient. I paid only 80 euros for a small, one single bed room, it was clean, with a t.v., mini fridge and A.C. The staff during the day were very nice, friendly and... more

Having read other reviews, we were a little apprehensive entering this hotel. It looks a little shabby from the outside. However our stay couldn't have been better (apart from all the stairs we had to climb), the staff were excellent with great english. One gentleman even walked us to a restaurant when we asked for a good place to eat.... more

I am not a fussy traveller and I have stayed at many budget accomodations throughout Europe, the States and Australia. Therefore, I didn't mind that the hotel gave me the usual 'pay up front' demand and the usual 'credit machine broken, only cash accepted' excuse. I also didn't mind that on check-in, the room wasn't made up. Cigarette butts on... more

I chose this hotel in Venice based on the price and location. My companion and I took the bus from the airport into Venice, and the ride was only ~25 mins (3 euro each person). We stayed in Venice for one night and had to head out the next morning by train, so this hotel location was perfect because it... more

Don't stay here if you are used to American hotels. Very old and seedy. No elevator, not too clean and too close to the noisy street. But hey that's Venice. A member in our party had to ask for another room because of a strange smell. The desk staff was none too happy to find them another room. I wouldn't... more

The Universo Nord Hotel could not be in a more convenient (or kitschy/touristy) location--just about a block from the train station. From that perspective, it was very convenient--we didn't have far to go with our suitcases. That being said, the hotel has seen better days. I know Venice is expensive, but we paid about $200 for a spare room with... more

The experience on the whole was negative, thanks to very rude behaviour by one particular individual on the check-in staff. When we arrived, the hotel did not have our reservations (although we had pre-paid two months prior). The individual immediately got defensive and insulted both myself and my wife calling us "stupid Americans" despite us being "stupid Canadians" - but... more

Yes it is a good location. Needs to be updated and redecorated. No Lift and they put us on the top floor. The stairs got narrower and steeper each floor. Small rooms and no air circulation. Maybe they could install fans if air conditioning is not working at certain times of the year. How hard would it be to have... more
