Once you have made it up the steep hill leading to the hotel, the first thing you are greeted with is a huge rotating door, the dark metallic exterior of which does nothing to indicate that you are at the hotel entrance. It is not very welcoming and I wasn't entirely sure I wasn't entering an office complex instead! It... more

Hotel up steep hill about 200 yards from the station as others have commented. People with any mobility/heart problems should not attempt. Hotel modern and rooms adequate. The en-suite bathroom is separated from the bedroom by opaque glass only. Meaning that if the bathroom is used by one guest at night it is impossible not to disturb the other with... more

We stayed at the Alpa-Palmiers over night in May, 2008, which was arranged by Trafalgar Tour. We requested a non-smoking room before hand through Trafalgar. However after arrival, we noted we were allocated to a smoking room which was smelly and stinky. It seems to me that the whole first floor of the Hotel is a smoking floor, which is... more

I have just returned from a 1 night stay in this hotel. It was ideally placed for both the lake (providing you don't mind a walk of approx 20 mins...all up hill on the day back) and for the city centre/old town. The hotel was very clean but lacked character. We ate out but had breakfast in the hotel restaurant,... more

I recently stayed here for work. It was a last minute option as our usual place was full. It is convenient for the station and I quite liked the decor of the room, the bed was comfortable and I could get BBC1! The glass bathroom wall didn't bother me as I was by myself. However I wonder if any of... more

Hotel built like a circle; my room was located on the back 1/2 (as far from the elevator as one could be). Room itself was modern style - cowhide chairs at a small table, small kitchenette, two twin beds pushed together, modern tv. The wall between the bathroom and the sleeping area seemed to be made of opaque glass. Room... more

The hotel is very convienent to the train station, just a short trek up a steep hill to get to the hotel. Upon arrival we were assigned a room facing the street and located exactly across from the bar that releases loud patrons on into the street once it closes in the early am hours. So, we asked for a... more

Reception staff were helpful and accommodating - we asked for an extra pillow and 20 coathangers. Within a few minutes, a receptionist arrived at our door, carrying a pillow and exactly 20 coathangers ! The good news ends right there. Room was dusty and certain parts of the floor hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner for some time. The room safe... more

When we arrived there was only one small bar of soap and a roll of toilet paper with only a few strands of paper on it. One of the lights by the bed was/is burned out. The remote control needs a new battery; the TV comes in very fuzzy at times. When we requested a bag of ice from the... more

The hotel is not the most characterful but it's clean, very quiet, modern and 2 minutes' walk from the train station (about 20 minutes' brisk walk to the lake). Buffet breakfast is very limited - they charge you more if you want sliced cheese and meats although these are routinely included in breakfasts in other hotels. more
