The hotel is in easy walking distance/ short bus ride to Funchal. But if you are looking for 4 * quality do not choose the Girossol. It is in a 1980s time warp. A bit worried about some of the reviews but should not have been. Yes the rooms could do with a little updating but all other areas of hotel were excellent. Pools were good, breakfast had everything you could ask for. Reception / bar staff were very good and location was very good. more

First impressions of the Girassol Hotel were not good. Situated just off a busy main road in a built-up area and with building work going on all around, you don’t get the feeling that you are in for a peaceful holiday.
