Hotel Stein was a complete disappointment - I had booked well in advance and phoned the day before arriving to confirm my booking, only to be told when I arrived that they had overbooked and moved me to a hotel much further away, with scarcely an apology. I had gone to no small sacrifice to treat myself to a night... more

We booked through Venere and I wrote a review that was not shown for this hotel. The room was large and rather stuffy. It was fairly warm and since there was no air conditioning we kept the windows open. The football games were in progress so the noise was probably worse than normal. There was screaming and hollering all night... more

We stayed at hotel stein recently and were upgraded to a "junior suite" on the 5th floor, which turned out to be a very nice large room furnished with gorgeous antiques - I think they called it the Mozart suite. However it was a hot night (no a/c) so we had to keep the windows open. That created a huge... more

This is not a four star hotel! The rooms are stuffy and bedding uncomfortable. Don't be fooled by a room with a view as the road outside is noisy all night. There was no form of ventelation in the bathroom so it was extremely stuffy and smelly. When we tried to make a complaint it fell on deaf ears. The... more

First thing to consider is that this hotel is not air-conditioned. If it happens to be hot during your stay, and it was during ours, you will be miserable, and we were. Secondly, it seems no two rooms are alike and you are essentially at the mercy of the gods as to the kind of room you get. We were... more

Hotel Stein has the most incredible location, right on the river and facing the fort and opposite old town. We had a room with an incredible view and no experience of being disturbed by noise from the street (probably because we were on an upper level). Our friends had a twin room which was galley style and didn't have a... more

Best hotel we stayed in during our trip to Europe - real value for money and staff were excellent. The staff were the highlight of the hotel, they went above and beyond their call of duty in booking us our train tickets for our next journey. It turned out to be more difficult than expected, yet they didnt show any... more

We stayed at the Stein for my birthday and were there for 4 days. The location is fantastic - right on the river and very close to the old town, Mirabell gardens etc. The hotel is supposed to be one of the oldest in Salzburg and the creaky floors are testament to that! It was a lovely feature having said... more

Best location in salzburg right on the bridge, with lovely rooftop cafe - good for a drink, but food below average, compared to other restaurants in Salzburg, such as Blau Gans in the old city. Rooms weren't as nice as the hotel web site photos, the hotel foyer itself is quite old fashioned and Austrian - but the photos portray... more

Our stay at Hotel Stein in Salzburg was probably the best hotel stay we have had (we tend to stay in Villas/cottages) and had the pleasant surprise of an upgrade to Junior Suite. The rooms are clean and large, big bed, big tv (no eng channels) and very comfortable. We stayed in room 309 and had no view to speak... more
