Our most recent stay at the Kilverts echoes the recent reviews here. We had stayed numerous time before, even our wedding night and loved it but this time it was disappointing. The decor is now very tired and the stairs to the top floor had not been hoovered for a good while when we arrived. The tea and water weren't... more

If you are considering booking Kilverts, don't. If you have already booked it and your stay is anything more than two weeks away I would call now and order your food in advance. On the rare occasions where you are allowed to order food (they normally say that the chef is too rushed to take an order for another half... more

the last entry promts me to write as it echos our experience. First visit since new owners and considering they have been there a year it is a tip. room ok but the restaurant is now very poor. An hour for breakfast and the scrambled egg was black in places. the diiner menu reads worse that the bar menu. could... more

I would agree with the reviewer who likened their experience of the hotel with staying at Fawlty Towers. Having booked 2 rooms for a Saturday night over two months in advance I called the hotel the day before we travelled to confirm my booking, and to enquire if I would be able to check in as early as midday. The... more

The reception area for guests looked like a pigsty, the room was ok but it was supposed to be a deluxe room, and had a terrible avocado bathroom suite straight out of the 70's, very tired decor. Breakfast service was a complete joke, we waited about an hour in total for our breakfast, waitress just appeared completely confused, in a... more

I'm sorry to say that Kilverts Hotel's newish owners appear to be paying for their refurbishments from the food budget, and it shows. Food now 3/10 so will not be going back there, even after many annual visits. Previously the imaginative cuisine drew us back. Such a shame, but when we tried tactfully to give feedback because we didn't want... more

Where do I begin, I was booked into the hotel by the company that I work for and I have to say that if I had a choice between the Kilverts and Faulty Towers then, FAulty Towers would have won. The welcome was non existant and Basil Faulty would have been proud at the way guests were spoken too.I understand... more

Having visited Hay on several occasions and stayed at other places, I decided to try out the Kilverts. The room was, ummm, ok. It had a nice, cosy feel to it, oak beams and sloping walls etc, but you could trace the archaeology of the interior decor back to the early 70s. Some it was absolutely brand new, such as... more

Me and my partner checked into Kilverts for a night in September 2005 just by accident as we were not planning to stay in Hay-on-Wye at all, as we got slightly carried away exploring this little gem of a town. We stayed in a standard double room and were very impressed with the quality of the room, the food and... more
