What a place...its a castle. If you can, try and book into room 19 or 20 in the turret. Sartat is the best Medeival town in all of France. We got there on market day (Sat) and we were treated to the best market day we have ever seen. The streets were llined with rows and rows of food, crafts,... more

We stayed here for one night en-route to our main accommodation for our holiday, there was a group of 12 of us - 5 double rooms and 1 twin. The hotel is in a very old building, very thick walls, odd shaped rooms, lots of stairs (but thankfully a lift!). Most of the group were happy with their rooms, one... more

I stayed at the Couleuvrine for one night with a group of friends- we were heading for the Cognac region and decided to stop and visit Sarlat, a truly charming medieval town. They were very gracious to us and let me tell you: a bunch of 16 loud Italians is a bit of a challenge at the best of times.... more

My husband and I stayed two nights in Couleuvrine in September 2005 during our self-guided biking trip in Dordogne. Hotel has a special character including antique canon over huge fireplace in dining room and several royal Louis portraits in hallways. We loved our mansard room in the tower with beamed ceiling and view over the roofs of Sarlat. The room... more

This is a big hotel, located slap-bang in the middle of Sarlat at the one of the town's main intersections. The building looks nice from the outside and is a major imposing icon of the town. No other hotel in Sarlat comes close to its visibility and centrality. We got a cheap room and it was, well, cheap. Small and... more

We booked over the internet, asking for 'one of the nicest double rooms and a nearby room for our children'. When we arrived we were directed out of the main hotel via a difficult flight of stairs with a grubby carpet down to a twin room at the front of the hoteland an adjacent very small double room at the... more

Their promotional hype says there is parking for cars, when in truth the parking was in the street, if available. The room we had was large but at the top of the building which meant navigating through several hallways. Their restaurant was good, but breakfast was average. Overall fair value for money. more

We hadn't booked, just turned up at 6pm the first night we arrived in Sarlat but there were no rooms available. The second time we called at about 4.30 and were offered the last room, number 27 on the top floor of the side annex. This was a very small room , really a single with a double bed pushed... more

My boyfriend and I spent one night in this hotel a few weeks ago and would definitely not recommend. Our expectations when booking was that we would be staying in a genuine, authentic French hotel which was clean, reasonably priced and with an excellent restaurant. How wrong we were! We were given a room (number 24) at the front of... more

We stayed in a twin room for 3 nights and enjoyed it immensely. The furniture is unique and there is a lot of character to the place. The hotel restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin Green Guide for the area and serves great food. However, seeing as we very on the 'etape gourmande' price rate, we only got to choose... more
