The Grand Chancellor started its life as a Sheraton. The people of Hobart did not at first warm to a high rise block hotel overlooking the funky waterfront with its fish cafes and boat harbour. Time and other new buildings have eased the strain and the Grand Chancellor is now very much part of the Hobart scene. The rooms are... more

Booked 3 twin mountain view rooms for a girls weekend away in Hobart. Allocated 3 rooms on 17th floor. We were all very happy. Rooms are large with comfortable beds, mirrored wardrobe with light, decent mini bar selection, 24 hour room service, large bright bathrooms, decent showers. Hotel has a great lobby bar that is open late, and I'm told... more

Statyed for only 1 night in a harbour view room. When we checked in I found the front desk staff to be quite curt and they couldn't manage a smile. Unfortunately we were on one of the lowest floors, and even though we were directly in front of the harbour, we had to look across the pebbled rooftop of the... more

I can't believe the previous reviewer left early-sounds like they stayed at a different hotel! Sure, this hotel is showing its age a little, but for the price, location & THE VIEW (make sure you book a harbour view, rooms on the other side would be a little dreary), I thought it was good value. I found the reception staff... more

Absolutely THE worst hotel of it's star rating I have had the misfortune of staying at. No help with luggage. Pathetic housekeeping, I'd hate to see that woman's own house! Cold, uninviting and characterless foyer and bar area. Poor noise insulation between rooms. Hopeless A/C temp controls. (I gave up in the end.) Various mistakes on the bill (overcharged.) Had... more

We stayed 2 nights at the Grand Chancellor with my wife because it was close to the waterfront and close to my client's office. The view from the waterfront rooms is fantastic, and we enjoyed watching the evening's sail racing and the activity of the waterfront. The hotel is close to lots of good waterfront restaurants, as well as a... more

We stayed at the Hotel Grand Chancellor for two nights. The Chancellor would not match an internet rate. The check-in staff were very helpful, we had a car and that was $7 per day while we stayed there. There is no lift from the carpark to the rooms so we unloaded our vehicle and then moved it to the carpark.... more

We stayed at the Hotel Grand Chancellor from Dec 20th until Dec 23rd as part of a Christmas holiday trip from the U.S. to Queensland. We were a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews on this site but overall had a pleasant stay at the hotel. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and chose to use the valet... more

What a circus... we arrived at 2.30pm but the room wasn't ready due to a fireman conference so was told to wait or they could store our luggage. The receptionist looked like her day was going from bad to worse and we were the straw which broke the camels back. We elected to store our luggage and asked for assistance... more

I was a bit nervous booking here after reading some of the reviews. I had booked a surprise weekend for my husband, meeting up with other friends. I was more than happy with my choice of the Grand Chancellor. No problems booking in early, and a room with a great water view. The hotel is a little dated and has... more
