Rather basic and somewhat tired, but clean and functional. Only stayed one night as we believe most guests do. However the west coast is well worth exploring as the scenery (particularly Pancake Rocks) is stunning. Staff at hotel were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable, especially the Bar Manager who gave us lots of local history and showed us some fascinating old... more

We stayed here for 2 nights on our way to Franz Josef. The room was a little dated and not very big, although adequate. We were probably spoiled from previous hotels with larger rooms. Saying that, it was clean and well equipped. We found the staff friendly and helpful, and the hotel restaurant was amazing. The food was delicious and... more

We stayed at the Kingsgate for one night in what was described as a superior room in the highrise part of the hotel. This seems to date from the 1960s and is somewhat dated, although I think its the newest part of the hotel. The hotel is very well located in the centre of town. The rooms are a good... more

We stayed at the Kingsgate Hotel as part of a motorcycle tour. We arrived on a cold and rainy day. The front desk help was very gracious, friendly and helpful, the restaurant looked nice and the hallways were welcoming. However, stepping into the room was a shock. Not only was it tired and drab the plaster was hanging off the... more

Only stayed in Greymouth for one night, on my way from Christchurch to Fox Glacier. The town doesn't have much going on, to be honest; I think the majority of hotel guests are just passing through on their way somewhere else. Pros - the staff were friendly; it's pretty centrally located within Greymouth; and it's a perfectly adequate room for... more

Is it a Double Room, OR is it a Double Bedded Room. It seems they are both the same in New Zealand. This hotel is one of the tallest buildings in Greymouth with views over the low level buildings of this almost cowboy looking town, BUT we could not move around the room because of two double beds. We were... more

Greymouth, as described to us as 'where you turn left or right', has little going for it, we only stayed here as we had missed the shuttle bus. The hotel has apparently been refurbished, but your choice is grotty old room with a bath or new refurb room with a shower - no new rooms with showers and baths, which... more

We were on a one night stop over heading down to the Glaciers from Christchurch. When we arrived the weather was horrendous with really heavy rain all day long. The Hotel was a nice shelter from the bad weather and the receptionist very friendly. The car park is way too small which we commented on as we got the last... more

The hotel room is nice and clean. The car park in the hotel is not enough for all guests; therefore, the hotel hire another car park located 300 meters far from the hotel. Also, for those who can't carry a baggage to a second floor may consider a first floor. If you want to explore greymouth city, this hotel is... more

The hotel is very tired. We were originally allocated a room that smelt, was damp and had cracked sanitaryware in the bathroom. We returned to reception to complain (the lady on the desk was very helpful) and were allocated a "Premium" room. This room was adequate, but I would have been disappointed if I had paid extra for the "Premium"... more
