Read the review in one of the guidebooks which stated that it was the writer's "home away from home" when they are in Hanoi. Don't be fooled. This is a budget hotel alright, but somehow I think that for the money you can do better. Sure it's "family-run" but unless you speak Vietnamese you are ***. Only one of the... more

I agree with the previous reviewer. We had been staying before at another minihotel (Tien Thuy) which was less than ideal. Chan Cam street is less crowded than Hang Thung, more peaceful and relaxed. We stayed at the Camellia Hotel at 12 Chan Cam St. It is several blocks from the Hoan Kiem Lake. We picked up the recommendation from Frommers Book after we got shut out of other Hotels because of the 14,000 additional people in Hanoi due to the APEC Conference.
