After experiencing delays leaving the airport we finally arrived at the InterContinental Semiramis around 2:30 in the morning and were immediately greeted by an extremely friendly doorman. He gave us a quick history of the hotel and area we were looking out at over the Nile and offered to be of assistance anytime we needed. The checkin was a little... more

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in May, 2008. We were with a tour group which this hotel seems to caters to. All in all, we had a good stay at this Intercontenental, Compared to the chaos of Cairo, the hotel was a traquil refuge. I had read that the hotel was shabby, but we did not... more

Having spent the night on the overnight seater train from Luxor this hotel was a welcome relief We did have a few hiccups on arrival & had to change room due to the constant noise of the elevator which was close to the original room we were given but they were very amenable when I rang to complain (it appears... more

This large property is located in the center of things, within walking distance of the Egyptian Museum and other hotels and restaurants, but it lacks the "feel" of Egypt and needs a bit of renovation to bring it up to contemporary standards. more

Stayed here for a couple of nights before heading off on a Nile cruise. Thought this hotel was really very good. We had a good sized room, over-looking the Nile and the bedroom was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was also clean - but a bit dated and seemed a bit 'tired' compared to the bedrooms and the rest of the... more

The hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time there! The staff were extremely helpful and salons, banks and gift shops within the building made exchanging money and last-minute shopping easy. The hotel over looks the Nile and is in easy walking distance of major shops. Check out the Night & Day restaurant and... more

The Semiramis is in a convenient location downtown Cairo. The staff and service was excellent and the price was well worth it. The only set back is if you want an "Egyptian-looking" hotel while in Cairo, then this is not the one for you. It was more European, without the Arabic touches that suggest you're in Egypt. Other than that,... more

My friend, who is a Cairo local, booked the Semiramis Intercontinental hotel for my husband and me. So we were shocked when the bill came and they charged us $380/night + 25% tax ($475/night total). Apparently, the local Egyptians get a much better rate than "foreigners." Our room was on the 28th floor NOT facing the Nile. We had priority... more

This was the third and final hotel stay of a recent one-week tour of Giza, Luxor and Cairo. Like Le Meridien Pyramids in Giza, The Semiramis tacks on a whopping 25% tax on all booked rooms. And like most other hotels anywhere in the world, in-room internet access is a colossal rip-off -- $30 CAD PER DAY if I remember... more

This hotel has without a doubt the absolute WORST service I have ever experienced. I had heard such fantastic comments about it and was so excited to stay here. From the first hour we arrived, I was terribly disappointed. Our reservations--booked and confirmed multiple times in advance--were completely messed up. We were told no Nile views were available, despite the... more
