This is an amusing hotel. Do not have high expectations about the rooms, the location or the service and you will not be disappointed. The rooms vary enormously - some are old, some are new, most are a bit of a disappointment, but then this is a relatively cheap hotel. The 'best' rooms that you pay a premium for have... more

If you want to directly experience Cairo, the Windsor is the perfect spot. It is right in the heart of the city but not on a busy street, just blocks from both subway lines. Chock full of charm, not big chain amenities. The hotel bar is the perfect spot for breaks. Make sure to ask for a deluxe room and... more

I have been visiting Cairo for over a decade now and I really wonder why I never discovered the Windsor before. We stayed there for one week and absolutely loved it. It is a real piece of history in the middle of Cairo. We had a large room with two beds, shower and toilet. The hotel is spotlessly clean: do... more

I stayed for two times at the Windsor hotel. The first time, also my first time in Cairo, i took part in a workshop with a group of 17 people. We stayed for almost 5 weeks in the windsor and it became kind of home for me. The staff is so friendly, that you always feel welcome. Also the hotelmanager... more

An amazing place! If you're looking for luxury then this certainly won't fit the bill. However if you're looking for a bit of colonial and celluloid history preserved then this is ideal. By modern standards, the rooms are very basic but, in my experience, clean. I loved the old lift, the barrel bar, the manual telephone switchboard, the authentic old... more

Besides an overall atmosphere of dingy, dumpy, creepy, trashiness, we were attacked by bugs while sleeping. In the morning, my boyfriend's face was completely swollen and we had to figure out how to get him to a hospital (also dirty) and pharmacy. The hotel still made us pay for our stay! There is nothing charming about it, you would be... more

an amazing place. it used to be a british officer's club. it has huge ceilings and doors and various other incredible features...Michael Palin actually stayed here when filming around the world in 80 days....The rooms aren't luxurious but they're decent enought if you're backoacking. the location is incredible. bang in the middle of cairo and you're surrounded by shisha smiking... more

My husband and I have travelled through many parts of the world and stayed in all manner of hotels / guest houses ranging from extremely basic to top-class luxury. Although we have stayed in far more salubrious and dare I say it - comfortable hotels, the Windsor (where we stayed in 2004) remains the most memorable and quirkily charming for... more

My partner and I stayed at the Windsor Hotel, simply because recommended by travel books and hotel has a bit of history attached to it. It is an old hotel with large rooms, two single beds, old fashion bathroom but working, furniture still from the 50s, but good location for Cairo. Entrance is on a small - but safe -... more

We booked this hotel through Expedia because of its historical interest. When we arrived, the hotel claimed not to have a record of our booking. They sent us to their 'sister' hotel, the Lotus. Do not under any circumstances go to the Lotus - it is a dump on top of a derelict building. We felt unsafe and didn't sleep... more
